Head Up North & Relax!
Lake Cadillac & Mitchell have 4 public beaches (Mitchell State Park, Kenwood Beach, City Park, Hemlock) connected by a multi-use trail system that meanders around the lakes and throughout the community.
General Information
- Parks offer pristine beaches, pavilions, volleyball courts, a frisbee golf course,
playgrounds, and public bath/restrooms. Carl T Johnson Hunting & Fishing Museum highlights the northern Michigan hunting & fishing delights with animal displays, maps, activities, a range and Heritage Trail with interpretive signage. - Downtown shops offer an eclectic mix of art, gifts, clothing, décor, books, toys, coffee shops, and restaurants.
- A historic district walking tour takes you back in time to Cadillac’s forefathers during the lumbering days with over 16 renaissance buildings described. Local Cemetery Tours are also offered at various times throughout the summer & fall. The Wexford County Historical Museum is open Memorial Day to Labor Day.

We are Centrally Located!
- We are the closest resort to Caberfae Peaks Ski and Golf Resort. Here you can enjoy the thrill of the ski slopes or the tranquility of golfing amidst a pine tree forest. Coyote Crossing Resort is minutes away from the Pine River known for its premier trout fishing and canoeing.
- We are also just 15 minutes from Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell, which have public beach access, boat rentals and launches. We’re 35 miles from beautiful Lake Michigan and Little River Casino in Manistee.
- The surrounding Manistee National Forest is perfect for your Morel mushroom expeditions in the spring; several types of hunting; and enjoying beautiful fall colors.
- The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is about one hour north. Here you can take a scenic drive overlooking Lake Michigan and the sand dunes, or you can get some exercise and climb the dunes!
- For those of you who enjoy wine tasting, there are plenty of Michigan wineries in Leelanau and Grand Traverse Counties (about 45 miles north of us). Self-guided tours!
OHVs / Wheeled Recreation
With the recent legalization of OHV’s in the Manistee National Forest, wheeled recreation has become a big part of our business! There is direct connectivity to the south into Lake County and up to the north to Mesick, there are plenty of beautiful trails in our area to enjoy! Stop in and pick up a new scenic ride map, created by the Cadillac Area Visitors Bureau, and look for new kiosks & signage on the route, as well as at local businesses.
Snowmobiling
Northern Michigan is a hot spot for well groomed and maintained trails across the region. It is not uncommon for visitors to come from hundreds of miles away to enjoy them! What better place to stop and grab a bite to eat while out riding than Coyote Crossing. Pete, one of the owners, keeps an up to date trail report that is viewed by many and one of the most accurate and honest reports there are. Winter Fun
Cadillac area is a “Winter Wonderland” with numerous activities to take advantage of all winter long! Activities like snowmobiling, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, are just a few of the options during the snowy months of winter.
Skiing
From first timers to seasoned vets; Caberfae Peaks has something for everyone. A relaxed atmosphere boasting 34 ski runs and 485 vertical feet. As the first established and longest running ski resort in the Midwest, families have grown up here at Caberfae, and come back with their own children to share the experience with new generations of snow lovers. Caberfae Peaks has all the amenities, including full ski rentals, snowboard rentals, and expert instruction in the latest techniques for skiing and snowboarding, two base lodges, restaurant and bar.
Canoeing, Kayaking, Tubing & Rafting
We are within minutes from thousands of acres of public forest boasting some of Michigan’s best adventurous rivers. Canoe/kayak permits are issued every day on the Pine and Manistee Rivers, for both the novice and experienced. The Muskegon River is a wide, shallow river with a sandy bottom that flows through mostly state land with numerous sand bars to stop on. The Pine River is a paddler’s paradise, it’s the more difficult of the two rivers.
Fishing & Boating
By lake or river, the Cadillac area offers boating experiences for relaxing, tubing, water skiing, and fishing. Cadillac offers over 3700 acres of boating playground on Lakes Cadillac and Mitchell. Public boat launches and a city dock offer easy accessibility for boaters and shore fishing. Fishing tournaments and recreational fishing are regularly enjoyed on both Lakes Cadillac & Mitchell.
Golfing
Offering nine local golf courses with amazing tee experiences that offer a variety of affordable fairways, greens, and practice facilities. Area courses host a multitude of corporate to family golf outings.
Hiking & Biking
Surrounded by National and State forest, public parks & rolling hills, the Cadillac area offers a diverse hiking trail experience for young families and experienced hikers. Cadillac is also built for bikes of all styles – scenic motorcycle and road bicycle rides, rugged mountain biking trails and state ORV trails. The area offers over 200 miles of trails and proven rides for 20, 30, 50+ mile trips.

- Bicycles: The shores of Lake Cadillac host the July Lumberman Duathlon & Triathlon; Ride for Cause in September; and the Festival of Races over Labor Day offers local rides in several styles; a scenic 7.5 mile cruise around Lake Cadillac; highway rides offer rolling hills with breathtaking valley scenes from summer foliage to fall color splendor. Rentals are available at McClain’s in downtown Cadillac
- Mountain Bikes: Big M is located 15 minutes West along the Manistee River area that boasts a variety of terrain. Pere Marquette Trail by Baker College/WMISD off 13th Street has several miles of rugged terrain. The local National Forest & State Forest Trails offer hundreds of miles of trails to explore
- Motorcycles: ‘Blessing of the Bikes’ in Baldwin’s second weekend of May– cyclists from around the USA kick off the summer cycle season with Father Joe Fix offering a blessing over a field of thousands. MIA (downtown Cadillac) full-service bike shop.
- ORV: Martin Power Sports (Cadillac) full-service shop, Peacock Ltd (Baldwin) full-service store.
- Hiking: The Manistee River trail offers breathtaking scenery into river valleys and open waters. The Pere Marquette Trail has a range of terrain with interpretive signage. National Forest Trails to hike are abundant, go to michigan.gov or cadillacmichigan.com to download trail maps.
