Hello Sledders! As owners of Coyote Crossing for 14 years, we’ve endured many sub-par winters, but this one takes the cake! We are so thankful to #CaberfaePeaks and their snowmaking efforts throughout this dismal year, allowing us to get our fix of some winter fun, by skiing and hanging out on Arlo’s deck!  We really only had 2-3 weeks of rideable snow and you all need to tell Mother Nature that this is simply not acceptable.

I hope to get more consistent reports out next winter, as we were getting the kinks out with this new blog platform. I will also do some updates throughout the warmer months for wheeled vehicles and other outdoor recreation. So, check back for other seasonal blog reports!

We’ll have some El Niño sucks T-shirts on sale soon through our website … watch for those!

Hello Sledders!

We finally got some snow!! Looks pretty again, but obviously there was no base under this 5-6″ of fresh snow. Trails are all white and covered, but could hear rocks underneath without a base. Felt like a first ride of the year in early December, when riding last night … according to our son who checked out the trails.

Forecast doesn’t look great after this weekend, so if you choose to ride, just remember the conditions.

There has been some wheeled vehicle traffic in this warmer weather we’ve had, so be cautious that some ruts could be prevalent on the trails.

Hello Sledders!

Unfortunately, the warm up has arrived, as expected. Our minimal base that we had, is disappearing.Would not recommend riding this area until conditions change. I’m sure some back country forest roads are still white, but all main access and corridors are showing lots of brown today.

Thankfully Caberfae was able to make tons of snow in the last few weeks and things still look like Winter at the ski hill! We skied yesterday morning and slopes were great! Come on up and ski and party at Coyote this wknd. We’ll have the Lions game on Sunday evening!!

Sorry for the negative news, but I always try to be as transparent as possible on current trail conditions.

Hello Sledders –

Wow!!! What a massive amount of sleds we had on our trail system this past week!!!

Coyote enjoyed one of our busiest single days ever, on Saturday and we greatly appreciate the much needed business! I’m hoping other area businesses saw the same kind of traffic we did, as recreational income is so important to Cadillac.

I’m sure many of you experienced some rough trails throughout the wknd, and Cadillac Winter Promotions is doing it’s best to bring them back to as close to flat as possible. Winter Promotions has several new groomer drivers, who have needed training, so there were a few missed shifts over the past week. As of midday Monday, as I’m writing this, the entire system has been groomed in the last 24 hours.

Today I rode south to LeRoy and found conditions on Trail 35 and 5 to be quite good. Trails around Coyote, Lost Pines, Boon & Caberfae are quite beat up. The bigger trail corridors are still in better than average conditions, but the tight sections within Trails 37 & 6 are really rough due to little snow to work with; ie: no base.

Unfortunately, there is a warm up is in our future :(.  Heavy snow is expected late tonight through Tuesday night, accumulating 3-6″. I am planning to go out and groom tomorrow morning for my regular weekly shift, but expecting Groomers to be grounded by Wednesday as warm temps and possible rain are forecast later this week.

Unlike John Dee was, I am not a meteorologist and have no real foresight into weather conditions. So what you see on weather apps, is the same as I know! Fingers crossed that this next warm-up is minimal and doesn’t destroy our trails.

There was a terrible accident on Friday in West Cadillac, crossing M-55. Our thoughts and prayers go out to to all of those involved, although we don’t have an updated status on the injured person.

THINK SNOW! RIDE RIGHT! BE SAFE!

Hello Sledders!

After a busy and snowy holiday weekend, groomers are out running regular shifts in our area. I groomed today Trail 37 north and south from Hoxeyville Barn.

Tight, twisty areas are  thin with very little loose snow to fill in bumps. Main trail arteries had really good snow and groomed out great! 677 and 687 are examples of rough conditions. Whereas, Trail 37 North and South, and 6 East, along with 637 groomed out nicely!

If you’re looking for breakfast in the Coyote, Boon areas, remember Beaties at Caberfae has a buffet from 8-10a.m. every day.

Keep in mind that the regular trail to the Boon Store is no longer open, so you have to access from the north or south along the shoulder.

Bitter cold temps the last couple of days, but looks to be seasonable temps for this coming weekend!

Hello Sledders!

Snow keeps adding up in our area! I’d guess there’s been another 6-10″ in the last 24 hours. Didn’t get many miles in yesterday, b/c of working at Coyote and plow duties, but most people were reporting good overall conditions.

The groomers are out, but they cannot be aggressive with the bumps, b/c the bumps are mostly dirt and not snow moguls. So, if the groomers get too aggressive with the dirt and churn it into the snow, it really hurts the base. So please be patient. They are doing the best they can out there and should be able to start filling in the bumps here this week.

With the Martin Luther King holiday tomorrow, Coyote will be open until 10pm tonight with the kitchen closing at 9:30pm. Open Monday, MLK Day 11 a.m. til 9pm and closed Tuesday (like usual).

Hello Sledders!

Trails were rapidly improving last night as we rode a few miles! Hopefully groomer active will start later today or tomorrow. Snow coverage in our whole Cadillac trail system should be adequate now! Nice moisture to this snow really should pack in well. Forecast is calling for additional inches throughout the day.

M-55 is snow covered, but has been plowed.

We’re excited to kick off the season! Gonna keep this short, as I have to get back to plowing!! Working on clearing out around Coyote now.

Head out and enjoy this snow, and support the local businesses!

Hello Sledders!

We’re finally getting a big storm headed our way! They’re calling for 1-2 feet of snow, and extremely high winds, which are a concern. Those of you coming up from the south, please drive safely and expect treacherous roads. Also, please bring saws as I’m expecting lots of downed trees and limbs on our trail system. Our volunteer groomer organization will need help, so please stop whenever you see people working.

We just re-ordered (from years past), our popular “El Niño Sucks” T-shirts! Stop in Coyote this wknd to warm up and get some of our new Coyote and/or Klim swag!

Hello Sledders!

Things are improving! We have received about 2-3″ of wet, heavy snow today. Forecast is still showing 6-10″ for total accumulation. This wet snow should be good for the first substantial snow of the year as far as base building goes. More snow expected tonight and tomorrow, with cold temps following this weekend. I am guessing that we have rideable snow by tomorrow?

We still have cabins available for this weekend and Caberfae conditions are are really good right now and I’m sure they’re hoping to get South Peak going in the near future?

One sledder note is that the trail into Boon Store is not expected to be open this season, but discussions with DNR are ongoing, so stay tuned. Be safe and expect uncertain trail conditions for the coming week.

Hello- We are still awaiting snow, but things are looking promising in the coming weeks forecast. Depending on where you look, we are expecting 6-8″ of snow from today through Next Saturday. Please ride cautiously in these early days, as there will be rutting from tires and until we can groom and smooth things out, trails will be tricky in spots.

Cadillac Area Visitiors Bureau, along with Tread Lightly and Can Am are making some nice improvements to our Cadillac system.  With the help of some grants, CAVB has added some new signage to our system.  Two new signs have been installed in the Caberfae Trail Head and one at the 33 Rd staging area. These signs will give both sledders and wheeled riders some guidelines for their respective “seasons”.  These signs are really well done and we expect to see more like them around the area in coming months.

Caberfae is happy to have some colder temps and their snowmaking crews are making the slopes great again. When our natural snow isn’t cooperating, it sure makes us realize how important Caberfae Peaks is to the local economy. Pete & Tim sure do a great job over there and the many improvements over the years is very noticeable to us locals.
